Italy has an extensive and efficient train network, making it a popular choice for travelling within the country. Train tickets can be purchased online at www.trenitalia.com, at self-service ticket machines, or at the ticket counter at the train station. Alternatively download the app: Trenitalia.
validate your ticket
Before boarding the train, make sure to validate your ticket using either the yellow validation machines located on the platforms or via the check in option in the “trenitalia” app. Failure to validate your ticket may result in a fine.
taxis
use licensed taxis
If you need to take a taxi, use licensed ones and make sure the driver uses the meter or agrees on the fare before starting the journey.
stay in well-lit and populated areas
Stick to main streets and avoid dimly lit or deserted areas, particularly at night.
official taxi stands
It's advisable to pick up taxis from designated taxi stands.
meter usage
Ensure that the taxi driver uses the meter (taximetro) to calculate the fare and keep an eye on it throughout all journey to make sure it is not switched off by the taxi driver.
tariff information
Tariff Information: Always ask before getting in the cab, the estimated cost of the trip. Receipts: Request a printed receipt (ricevuta) at the end of the journey.
cash payment
It's advisable to carry cash as many taxis in Italy do not accept credit cards. Confirm with the driver before the ride if they accept card payments to avoid any inconvenience.
